The Russian Ministry of sports has set a goal to take eighth place in the unofficial team competition of the summer Olympic games, which will be held in Tokyo in 2021. The goal is also to take fifth place in the unofficial team competition at the 2022 Olympic games.
The famous coach Irina Viner-Usmanova told about the tasks set by the Ministry of sports at the meeting of the Council for the development of physical culture and sports. She expressed bewilderment in connection with such tasks.
“We believe that it is impossible to agree in this project with the proposal of the Ministry of sports, which provides for the eighth place at the end of the 2021 summer Olympic games and the fifth place at the end of the winter Olympic games. For the first time, this proposal is a Draft strategy, page 96.
Our country has a huge sports potential, and the planned result at the summer and winter Olympic games can and should be higher. I think that our sports traditions and current positions in the world rankings based on the results of Junior Championships allow us to set this task for ourselves,” the Russian President’s website quotes Usmanova as saying in the transcript.
